Tool and Equipment Maintenance
Our tools are an extension of our craft. Faithful stewardship of equipment means it is ready when we need it and lasts as long as it should.
Procedure Steps
Follow each step in order. If something does not apply to the current situation, note it and move to the next step. If you find a better way, bring it to your group leader so we can improve the procedure for everyone.
Conduct a visual inspection of all tools and equipment at the start of each workday. Look for damage, wear, and missing components.
Clean all tools at the end of each workday. A clean tool is a tool that lasts. Do not leave it for tomorrow.
Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment immediately. Tag it out of service and notify the Field Commander.
Follow the manufacturer maintenance schedule for all power tools and heavy equipment. Log every maintenance action.
Store tools properly at the end of each day. Organized storage prevents damage and theft.
Conduct a full tool inventory weekly. Compare against the master list. Account for every item.
Replace worn or damaged tools promptly. Do not let the crew work with substandard equipment — it compromises safety and quality.
Maintain a maintenance log for each major piece of equipment. Include dates, actions taken, and next scheduled service.
